The Eye is one of the Mound Springs of Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre) collection. I took this shot whilst flying approximately 500 metres above the inland salt lake in South Australia. We chartered a small plane that allowed us to take off the door to take clear, unencumbered shots of some of the most amazing landscapes found in Australia. These mounds are created by pressurised fresh water springs from the Great Artesian Basin, the colossal groundwater system that stretches under much of inland Australia. The springs deposit the dissolved minerals from underground around the mound’s vent, creating them as the water evaporates.
